All Ages All Stages Band uses FarPlay for live online rehearsals. FarPlay is designed for low-latency online music-making, allowing musicians in different locations to play together in real time.

1. Download and Install FarPlay

Before your first rehearsal, download and install FarPlay on your computer.

Follow FarPlay’s installation instructions for your Mac or Windows computer.

2. Connect Your Equipment

Connect your microphone, instrument, electronic drums, keyboard, or audio interface before opening FarPlay.

Plug in your headphones as well.

For instrument-specific connection instructions, see our Setup Guides.

3. Open FarPlay

Open FarPlay and make sure it recognizes the audio equipment you plan to use.

If you’re using an audio interface, select the interface as your audio input and output device.

If you’re using a compatible USB microphone, headset, keyboard, or electronic drum module, select that device as appropriate.

4. Check Your Input

Play your instrument and speak into your microphone.

Make sure FarPlay is receiving a signal and that your loudest playing does not clip or distort.

If the signal is too loud or distorted, lower the input gain on your audio interface or device.

5. Check Your Headphones

Make sure you can hear FarPlay through your headphones.

Headphones are required for rehearsals.

Do not use your computer speakers during a rehearsal. Speaker sound can be picked up by your microphone and sent back to the band, creating echo and feedback.

6. Use a Wired Internet Connection

For the best possible connection, connect your computer directly to your router using an Ethernet cable whenever possible.

A wired connection provides greater stability and lower latency than Wi-Fi.

7. Close Unnecessary Programs

Before rehearsal, close programs and browser tabs you aren’t using, especially applications that may be streaming, downloading, uploading, or using your microphone or audio equipment.

8. Join Your Rehearsal

Your rehearsal information will include instructions for joining your FarPlay session.

Open FarPlay a few minutes before rehearsal so you have time to check your instrument, microphone, headphones, and connection.
